1. What can I do right now?
Get your team together and register now! Contact us if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.
2. My school hardly has any Muslims in it. Can I still make a team?
Of course! Your team can be as small as two people. Awards will be both individual based as well as team-based so you still have a shot even if your team is small.
Also, even if you don’t have many Muslim at your school, your team can always have non-Muslims as well!
3. Can I be in more than one competition?
Yes, as long as the competitions are in different categories. So for example, if you want to do essay writing (Writing & Oratory) you can also do 3D Art (Arts). But you cannot do photography (Arts) and 3D Art (Arts) because both of those are in the same category. So even if you have a small team, you can manage it in a way to maximize the amount of competitions you’re in. One person can participate in up to five competitions (one for each category).
4. Can I have non-Muslims on my team?
Yes! MIST accommodates everyone.
5. How old do I have to be to participate in MIST?
The general age of students competing in MIST is 14 years to 18 (i.e., high school grades 9-12). Students who are 13 years of age (i.e., 8th grade) by the first day of the tournament AND who exhibit a strong sense of maturity and intellect may compete in MIST if they complete a one page essay describing why they want to compete. The essay, written in MS Word or another word process applications must be EMAILED to mistBoston at gmail dot com no later than the regular registration date.
6. Isn’t it true that bigger teams always win at MIST and smaller teams have no chance?
Absolutely not! This is a common myth about MIST. If you don’t believe us, read the analysis here.
7. I graduated from high school and still want to be involved with MIST. How can I help?
We always need volunteers at MIST. There are MIST regionals all over the country (and Toronto), so you can be a part of MIST wherever you may move to. Just contact the regional group. You can find contact info here. If you want to be on the planning committee for MIST Boston, we’d love to have you! Just shoot us an email.
Some prodigious individuals may even want to start a new MIST regional in a new part of the world. (MIST Honolulu would be nice…) If you would like to do so (and, trust us, it has been done before), just get in touch with us and we’ll do everything we can to help.
Also, we accept donations. So, contact us and we’ll gladly take all those extra benjamins off of your hands
It’s for a good cause!
