How to Register
Note: If you plan your team early enough, you can even get your school to provide busing to the tournament. Since MIST is an academic school sponsored event, you should be able to receive busing. Ask your MSA sponsor and your school administration how to get buses for your MIST team.
Also, try to establish lettering criteria so that 1-5 place winners of MIST from your team and other members of your MSA can letter and receive letter jackets if your school has them. More information about Lettering
- Have the Organization’s coach sign the School Permission Letter, and then take it to your school’s principal/assistant principal for his/her approval for MIST and for lettering. More information about Lettering Criteria
- Have your Coach fill out the Coach Registration Form. See Coach Requirements before proceeding.
- Make copies of the Student Registration Form. Have your coach sign each student’s registration form before distributing the forms to the students.
- Distribute the signed student forms to each member of your team. All forms must be filled out in Blue or Black ink. Forms that cannot be read or appear sloppy will be returned to the Registration in-charge. If this happens after the late registration deadline, students might not be allowed to register. To avoid such consequences, make sure that all forms are completely filled out and accurate.
- Your MIST team must be open to all who are interested in joining from your school, Muslim or otherwise.
- Your team should not include anyone from outside of your school.
- Advertise MIST throughout your MSA and try to get as many members from your school to join your MIST team.
- Allow each student to go through the Category Overview and individual rules for each competitive event in order to choose which events to compete in (rules can be printed off www.getmistified.com and made into packets for the students, or posted by the sign up sheet in your coach’s classroom).
- Each student may sign up for only one competitive event from each of the five Categories. This means each student has the option of signing up for one art competition, one oratory/writing competition, one knowledge/quran competition, one bracket competition, and one group project competition. For group competitions, students may take part in them regardless of being registered for one of the other group competitions, but the directors who will be interviewed may not.
- No more than two (2) students per school may sign up for each of the competitive events with the exception of the group competitions and MIST Bowl. You must keep track of this on the Team Registration Form to prevent confusion. In the case of more students wanting to compete in a competition, determine who will sign up for the competition through a mini-competition amongst interested students. This will give your group something exciting to do. Otherwise, students can decide amongst themselves who will register for that particular competition.
- Once a student registers for a competition, they may not under any circumstances change their mind once the packets have been mailed. If the student decides to go ahead and not participate in the competition they originally registered for, their team will receive a zero for that competition which will affect the Team Average. Make sure students register for competitions that they will participate in.
- Determine a date when all registration forms and fees should be turned into the Registration in-charge.
- Parent/Guardian and coach/sponsor signatures are required for each Student Registration Form. Each coach/sponsor must fill out and sign the student registration form before it is given to the students’ parent/guardian. After seeing the parent/guardian’s signature, the coach must then verify which students he/she will be supervising at MIST. Unsigned forms will be returned to the Registration in-Charge for completion. If this is after the late registration deadline, the student risks disqualification.
- Have each student place his or her form and registration fees in an individual envelope and give it to the school’s registration in-charge to put in a larger envelope that will be sent to MIST.
- Download the Team List Registration Form and fill it out once you’re ready to mail all the forms. This form will help us keep track of your team. If your registration forms are not completed and do not have all the necessary forms, your registration will be invalid and sent back.
- Place the completed Team Registration Form, Coach Registration Form(s), and the Registration Team List in the envelope as well. Make sure that all forms are fully completed and that all the fees are included in the registration envelope. The first team that sends their fully completed forms will receive points toward their team score. If your team sends their forms first but they are incomplete or missing fees, they will be returned to the registration in-charge and your team will not receive points.
- Mail entire large envelope to your REGIONAL REGISTRATION HEADQUARTERS
- MIST will not accept any forms after the late registration date. Registration Dates.
- A few weeks before the tournament, MIST will send each coach and registration in-charge a Confirmation Letter that will confirm all the student’s registration information and the competitions they have registered for. If a mistake has been made, the competitor, Coach, or Registration in-charge must contact MIST immediately via email.
- No excuses, such as “My coach registered me for this competition and I didn’t know about it”, “I didn’t register for this competition”, or any others will be accepted once the tournament has started. The reason we send out the confirmation letters is so you can confirm that you’ve registered for the competitions in the letter. If we don’t hear from you in regards to your registration after we’ve sent the confirmation letters, we will assume that you and your team have no mistakes to report.
