Accountant
The Accountant plays a critical operational role within MIST, ensuring the financial integrity, compliance, and smooth handling of all monetary transactions. This position is responsible for managing daily ledger activities, coordinating with regional teams on financial submissions, and supporting external audits and tax preparation.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Ledger Management
Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounts payable and accounts receivable ledgers for all national transactions.
Process invoices, track payments, and manage reimbursements in strict alignment with MIST’s established organizational policies and financial best practices.
Regional Compliance & Oversight
Ensure all MIST regions meet mandatory monthly reconciliation timelines and reporting requirements.
Provide necessary support and guidance to Regional Finance teams to standardize and improve the quality of financial submissions.
Audit and Reporting
Coordinate closely with external financial contractors (CPAs) to facilitate the timely completion of annual tax returns and external financial audits.
Conduct routine internal audits and reviews of financial processes to ensure continuous compliance and identify potential discrepancies.
Qualifications
Cannot be in an active current MIST role; if currently in an organizing position, they would have to resign from their current position. Can still be a regular volunteer for any region, but may not hold any title/position
Proven experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or a related financial role, with proficiency in ledger management.
Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills and a commitment to accuracy and compliance.
Experience in processing payments, invoices, and managing reimbursement workflows.
Ability to coordinate with remote teams and manage external contractor relationships.
Availability to commit 5-7 hours per week
