Director of Technology

The Director of Technology is responsible for the selection, maintenance, and advancement of all MIST technology systems, myMIST (registration, judging and scorekeeping web app), getMISTified (event mobile app), GSuite Workspace, email marketing platforms, and all related software. The Director oversees a team of Software Developers and the Head of Data Analytics.

Official Start Date: September 1st, 2026
(A 3-month transition period with the outgoing Director will precede the starting date)

Key Responsibilities

  • Technology

    • Manage MyMIST and getMISTified applications at a full stack technical level, including feature development, bug resolution, and outage response.

    • Maintain mobile app presence on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store

    • Administer Google GSuite in collaboration with the Director of Human Resources

    • Lead the MIST Dev Team in feature development and system maintenance

    • Gather and evaluate feedback for all tech systems and applications

    • Oversee the sending of organizational emails

    • Supervise the Head of Data Analytics and Data Repository & Operations Program

    • Collaborate with the Director of Finance to evaluate software offerings for cost and feasibility

    • Maintain ownership of all MIST regional and national website domains

    • Spearhead innovation to elevate MIST’s technological capabilities and standards

  • Tournament Systems

    • Provide technical support to customers for myMIST and getMISTified in collaboration with the National Registration Coordinator

    • Resolve technical issues related to registration, judging, and scorekeeping

    • Serve as Super Admin for myMIST

    • Update competitions in myMIST system with corrected ballots and rules

    • Maintain team/submission caps for competitions

Qualifications

  • Cannot hold a concurrent MIST organizing role (must step down if selected)

  • High proficiency in software development and architecture. Ideally very familiar with Python, React, Postgres, and GraphQL, as well as Swift and React Native.

  • Familiar with standard software development practices (ie. GitHub) and infrastructure (ie. AWS, platforms such as Netlify, Render, etc.)

  • Results-oriented with strong prioritization and timely task management skills

  • Remarkable ability to work under high pressure situations involving multiple variables

  • Comfortable managing a team, mentoring other developers, and recruiting/interviewing prospective team members

  • Ability to work cross-functionally in teams while providing strong leadership

  • High proficiency in GSuite and Content Management Systems (SquareSpace, SendGrid)

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; responds within 24-48 hours.

  • Receptive to feedback: able to determine root problems and implement solutions

  • Detail-oriented and personable

  • Commitment to organizational stewardship, including supporting ELT peers and participating in broader strategic discussions beyond assigned responsibilities

  • Ability to dedicate 12 - 15 hrs/week
