Finance Operations Manager

The Finance Operations Manager serves as the critical link between the MIST National Finance team and the regional operations. This role is responsible for overseeing the financial health and operational consistency across all regions, providing direct leadership and ensuring that regional budgets, reporting, and procedures align with MIST National standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Regional Financial Oversight & Leadership

    • Supervise, lead, and mentor all Regional Finance Chairs, ensuring they have the necessary resources and training to execute their duties effectively.

    • Oversee the financial operations of all MIST regions, promoting the standardization of financial practices and workflows.

  • Budgeting and Reporting Management

    • Collect, review, and meticulously analyze periodic financial reports submitted by all MIST regions, providing constructive feedback to maintain accuracy.

    • Assist regional teams with the preparation and development of their annual financial budgets.

    • Approve the yearly regional budgets in collaboration with the Director of Finance.

  • Compliance & Support

    • Ensure that regional finance operations maintain compliance with MIST’s national policies and external regulatory requirements.

    • Serve as the main point of contact for regional financial queries, assisting with budgeting issues, expense tracking, and operational troubleshooting.

Qualifications

  • Cannot be in an active current MIST role; if currently in an organizing position, they would have to resign from their current position. Can still be a regular volunteer for any region, but may not hold any title/position

  • Proven experience in financial management, accounting, or business operations.

  • Direct experience in a supervisory or management role, preferably in a volunteer or non-profit setting.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to review complex financial reports and budgets.

  • Excellent communication and coaching skills to lead and support remote regional teams.

  • Availability to commit 5-7 hours per week
