Head of Communications

The Head of Communications is responsible for defining, developing, and deploying MIST National’s internal and external messaging strategy. This role ensures that MIST's mission, vision, and values are communicated clearly, consistently, and professionally to all stakeholders, while directly overseeing the management of daily interactions and inquiries from our community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Messaging & Voice

    • Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy that defines MIST's core messaging, brand voice, and public narrative.

    • Collaborate with executive leadership and the Content Strategist/Writer to ensure all external communications are aligned with strategic objectives.

  • Internal Communications

    • Design and manage the internal communications strategy, ensuring effective, timely, and organized flow of information to the Executive Leadership Team, Regional Boards, and other internal stakeholders.

    • Establish guidelines and tools for internal teams to communicate efficiently and maintain transparency across the organization.

  • Customer Interaction & Inquiry Management

    • Oversee and manage daily interactions, inquiries, and customer support channels (e.g., general email inboxes, contact forms).

    • Develop standardized response protocols and FAQs to ensure consistent and high-quality handling of all community questions and feedback.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field.

  • Exceptional strategic thinking skills with the ability to translate organizational goals into clear, actionable communication plans.

  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, including experience in developing internal messaging and managing customer relations.

  • Experience in crisis communication or handling sensitive public inquiries is a plus.

  • Availability to commit 5-7 hours per week.
